Banglalink Mobile subscribers rose to 8.3 million
by dotmark in May 9th, 2008DHAKA, May 10 (GSMPROFILE.COM) - One of the largest cellphone and mobile carrier Banglalink, said its total number of subscribers rose to 8.3 ( Eight and a Querter) million in March after it added 1.2 million new users in January 2008 to March2008. Bangla Link Offers post-paid and pre-paid GSM mobile services to all over Bangladesh. Bangla Link Previously named Sheba Telecom. Currently banglalink Offer includes SMS, MMS and Internet access.
One of the most popular mobile phone carrier Banglalink’s revenue more than doubled in the first quarter of 2008 to 4.75 billion taka ($70 million us dollar), jumping 124 % (+/-) over the same period of the 2007, BanglaLink officials said.
The Bd Mobile carrier Banglalink competes with GrameenPhone, CityCell, AKTEL and Warid. Bangladesh’s six mobile phone operators added 4.53 million new subscribers in January-March, lifting the user base to 38.93 million in one of Asia’s fastest growing cellular and mobile phone markets.
Banglalink’s average revenue per user increased by 10 taka to 195 taka ($2.8) a month in January-March 2008 from 2007, while its rivals’ (GrameenPhone, CityCell, AKTEL and Warid) monthly average revenue per users has been on the decline.
Banglalink’s market share jumped to 21 percent in March 2008 from 16 percent a year ago.
Bangladesh’s total number of mobile users rose nearly 58 percent in 2007 to 34.4 million, according to the Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission. The market has got a boost from cut-rate tariffs and cheap handsets. (Reporting by Ruma Paul; Editing by Anshuman Daga)
